Description of the organization:

SOSOMA Industries Ltd is a limited company established in November 2008 in Kigali, Rwanda. The company started its business by manufacturing products Sosoma1, Sosoma2, Fortified Sosoma2, Super maize Meal, Roasted Soya Flour, as well as Red and White Sorghum Flours originally produced by the SOSOMA Production Unit. Sosoma’s market includes schools, hospitals, wholesalers and supermarkets. The benefits of SOSOMA Industries Ltd, especially on its contribution to fight against malnutrition have been proven. SOSOMA Industries will be a key partner in supporting Rwanda to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, reduce child mortality and improve maternal health.

Project summary:

The aim of the project is to increase the company’s storage capacity of grains from 800MT to 2,600MT, with 88% of the grain constituted of maize and soya. The company will provide training to smallholder farmers in order to increase the production and quality of maize and soya beans. The project will increase smallholder participation in grain trade by increasing their farm yields, add value to their produce by aggregating, build awareness of grades and standards, and finally store the grain. The project also aims to contract three other rural cooperatives which have 10,000 members to supply the maize and soya grain; they will be based in three different countries (Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania). Moreover, SOSOMA Industries Ltd. will distribute the SOSOMA flours from soya, sorghum and maize grains in all East Africa Community countries (Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Burundi, South Sudan and Rwanda).
