FoodTrade ESA partner, Regional Network of Agricultural Policy Research Institutes (ReNAPRI) held their 2nd Annual stakeholder conference in Maputo, Mozambique from 27 to 28th October 2015. This conference thematic topic was “Anticipating the Future of Agriculture in Eastern and Southern Africa: Outlook for Maize, Wheat, Rice and Sugar.”

ReNAPRI is an African-led, African-driven regionally coordinated network of national agricultural policy research institutes duly established and operating in the East and Southern Africa region. ReNAPRI’s vision is to support national agricultural policy research institutes in Africa to be centres of excellence that guide and inform national and regional agricultural and food security policy issues.

During the conference, FoodTrade ESA Team Leader Marc Van Uytvanck spoke on the work FoodTrade ESA is conducting in the region and how the partnership with ReNAPRI developed, leading to the signing of a project partnership agreement for the next 2 ½ years, valued around US$ 500,000. The agreement will cover knowledge management, communications and dissemination so that programme key stakeholders are securing timely access to relevant information for evidence-based decision-making. Furthermore, ReNAPRI and FoodTrade will engage with policy makers through public-private or public-public dialogues and outreach activities.  ReNAPRI will also conduct studies and research on behalf of FoodTrade to fill in missing information gaps that can support grantees of the Challenge and Development Fund.
